Wine Tour Cape Town

The troupe wish to go on a wine tour. Wine tour? you don’t even like wine? !!!!'What is this evil plot?' you ask yourself as your friends look at you to gage some kind of response.

Well let me tell ya, I myself am not a drinker, but this is just something you have GOT TO DO! It's a must. It's not just about the wine, it's about the scenery ,the culture, the heritage, the great drive out of the city centre into this somewhat surreal setting, rolling vineyards and quaint Cape Dutch homelands, big open spaces, mountain backdrops [and in some spots you'll see French influences shining brightly through] basically it's about beauty ,surroundings and the vibe. If you have a cultured bone in your body you will know and understand this. Think stealing beauty, sideways and so many others....Its inspirational. Plan or take a wine tour, because on arrival you'll get caught up in all there is to see and won't be able to cover everything, we don't want you missing out on the important bits. Tour guides will be able to give you advice as to a succinct and successful wine 'go see' tailored to your needs. Clever thinking would be to enjoy a nights stay or better yet a weekends stay in the area of choice, in say a quaint bed and breakfast or a little chateau so as to really soak up the area, and leave no room for the drunken driving error which is very harshly penalised and not exactly the brightest idea anyway!!!

Two of my favourite areas to take a wine tour are Stellenbosch [ the hip university town that has youngsters roaming the main streets, books in hand just oozing cool] This would be the closest wine route to Cape Town. Stellenbosch is home to the first official wine route that was founded in 1971. It's a great spot and is often bustling.

Then there's Franschhoek Valley wine tour. Now this is rather amazing.....aaaah steeped deeply in French Huguenot heritage. Loads of bustling sidewalk cafes, galleries [the French Hugenot museum and graveyard for those of us who appreciate that kind of thing]. One great festival you definitely do not want to miss out on is the Bastille Day festival [14 July] it takes place over the weekend and is a marvelous source of entertainment even to a non-drinker such as myself, drive through a town festooned by great berreits in all colours, French flags flying proudly all over the place, great food...and then there's the tent...aaah, the tent is filled with both cheese and wines, even pancakes, champagne. All bring their produce ,you pay R40 receive a glass and five coupons to taste as you see fit, but choose wisely because there's a wide array to pick from, then when you get peckish indulge in the fine cheeses and crackers, and maybe even buy some in bulk to take home and rekindle the experience at a later date. One of my personal favourite wine farms is Boschendal....mmmm homemade lemonade, great scones with fresh cream and jam or the decadent lemon meringue suits my fancy just fine while my friends merrily debauch glass upon glass of fantastic 'house wines'.

Let’s not forget about Constantia wine tours, Paarl wine tours and Wellington wine tours. There are several tour operators that offer tours to the Cape wine lands. See our list of tour operators below.
