Steenberg Estate

Steenberg Estate stands alone in neighbouring Tokai within a short radius of the other four Constantia wine estates. It is the oldest farm in the Cape Peninsula which was granted by Simon van der Stel to a young widow, Catharina Ras in 1682. It was only in 1695 that wines were first produced on the estate.

The Steenberg farmstead including the manor house and the other buildings have been declared a national monument. The main gable, a 'holbol' outlined by heavy mouldings in a small keystone, is the only surviving example of it's type in the Cape Peninsula.

The 205 ha estate was purchased in 1990 by a large mining company who have renovated and developed it into a wine estate with a state-of-the-art cellar, that has the capacity to produce around 70,000 cases of uniformly high quality wines from the 68 ha of planted cultivars including its flagship cultivar Sauvignon Blanc as well as Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and Nebbiolo. The wines have been awarded many international and local accolades for outstanding quality.

The cellar also boasts a viniteque, where bottled wines can be kept under ideal conditions until ready to be enjoyed.

In addition to being a premier wine estate, Steenberg has been developed to include a 18-hole championship golf course. The individual holes mirror the environmental diversity of the area providing a varied and unique character to the course.

Steenberg is also home to a luxurious 24 suite Country Hotel and the top class restaurant- 'Catharina's'.
