If Stellenbosch is the heart of the Cape winelands, Spier is its soul. Situated in South Africa's prime wine-growing region, Spier is undoubtedly the most unique development in the wine world.

It's a must in Summer as it is situated near a lake with extensive picnic areas. One can purchase a picnic basket from their great deli. The picnic food selection is vast and very good. Spier also has several great restaurants like the fabulous Moyo which is an open air African theme restaurant. Eat under the stars,in a tree house or lounge around on the huge outdoor sofas and enjoy tribal dancing and other performances.

All wines can be tasted at the Spier Wine Centre. Showcasing more than 200 local estates, the Spier Wine Centre is a haven for wine-lovers. On the grounds of the main estate and housed in a gabled barn dating back to 1856, the cosy Cape Dutch architecture lures visitors into the treasures of this cellar.

There are delicate whites, rich reds, premium Cape rarities, collectors' labels, superior sherries, rare vintages, and, of course, Spier's very own range of wines, and the Spier Private Collection Range. Grown at the nearby Spier Vineyards, the award winning wines include a range of 7 products in the Spier range and 5 in the Private Collection Range.

The Village at Spier comprises 32 Cape Malay style cottages clustered around courtyards, swimming pools, gardens and waterways in the Spier Wine Estate. The landscaped grounds allow a host of recreational activities for its guests, such as horseriding through the vineyards, gym, tennis, hiking, swimming, playing a round on the spacious golf course or even visiting the on-site cheetah park.

The estate is also a cultural epicentre, with an art collection, four restaurants and a variety of massage and holistic treatments. Indulge yourself at the Camelot Spa.

Great experience.
