Somerbosch Wines

'Die Fonteine', (the fountains) home to Somerbosch Wines is relaxed and intimate, as you'd expect from a working farm that's been in the hands of a sleeves-rolled-up wine-making family for more than half a century.

Dad Wally had been raised on the next-door spread below Helderberg & after marrying the girl-next-door, he bought Die Fonteine farm, being well aware of the quality of the property's grape-friendly soils and favoured situation just a cool breeze from the Atlantic Ocean.

The Roux brothers, Marius and Japie, took over the running of the property from their father Wally in 1995 while brother Wrensch joined their team in 2005.

In 1995, having supplied grapes and wine for sale under other labels, the family decided to hoist their own flag, Somerbosch (an allusion to the farm's situation exactly midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West).

The branded label "Somerbosch Wines" has become synonymous with the fine wines produced from this region. Our range of wines are innovative and varied, appealing to a wide range of palates & are in demand both locally and in various European and American countries.

Created for immediate enjoyment with, in the case of the reds, the promise of extra pleasure if stored well, Somerbosch wines are relaxed and companionable yet 'serious' enough to pour with confidence at a formal dinner party or a business lunch.

During each vintage, natural conditions allowing, we also choose the best grapes available from specific vineyards, and through special care and attention, hope to create a wine worthy of the title Somerbosch Kylix - our Estate blend or our Reserve varietal label. These wines will be released in limited editions only, in vintages dictated by nature and will be produced with the connoisseur and serious wine lover in mind. "Above all, we'd like customers to have as much fun drinking our wines as we have making them" say Marius, Japie & Wrensch.

The entry-level ranges consist of a dry white & dry red called Seugnet (pronounced soo-nay) and the Poker Hill -which are available in 750ml & 375ml bottles. Our premium range includes the better-known varietals Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage & Shiraz. Our new flagship blend, KYLIX, was released in August 2005 & has become a very firm favourite.
