Longridge Winery is nestled in the Helderberg Mountains, the heart of the Stellenbosch wine region, it commands majestic views of False Bay and the Stellenbosch Valley. A long list of international and local awards indicates the calibre of wine produced by our winemaking team.

Two exciting ranges are produced, Longridge and Bay View and are available from the cellar during season. The Longridge Brand was established in 1993. Focusing on export markets, Longridge and Bay View wines developed into a brand family that is very successful in European markets. They also enjoy wide popularity in South Africa.

Longridge and Bay View wines are made in a modern boutique cellar in a beautiful setting on the slopes of the majestic Helderberg Mountains near the Western Cape town of Stellenbosch. It is a mere stone’s throw from the nearby icy Atlantic Ocean and 45km from Cape Town, one of the leading tourist destinations of the world. The wines are made in a powerful new-world style with the judicious use of oak, which is well integrated with a lively show of fruit. The wines are characterised by their elegance, deep rich intensity and concentrated and lasting flavours.

In 1999 Longridge merged with Savanha Wines and Spier under the Winecorp banner, to form one of the largest and most progressive wine groups in South Africa.

The winery is surrounded by vineyards in the Helderberg area, from where grapes are harvested for the premium-quality wines of Longridge. From nearby Stellenbosch and surrounding areas grapes are harvested for their complementary label Bay View, made in the same technologically advanced cellar.

It is in the vineyards where the beneficial impact of being part of a large group is most felt. Winecorp’s highly qualified viticultural teams exclusively manage all the vineyards that supply Longridge with its grapes. They make use of best international practices in the vineyards. In line with its “terroir” wine policy Winecorp has geared up its vineyard management capabilities to ensure that only the best quality fruit is delivered to their respective cellars. To this end Afrika Vineyards, under the directorship of renowned viticulturist Gerrie Wagener, was established to take responsibility for all the vineyards owned and managed by Winecorp.

Frans Smit, Winecorp Brands’ Group Winemaker, makes Spier wines and leads the three other winemaking teams of Longridge, Savanha and Capelands. A challenging task, but his experience at Spier serves him well. Winecorp’s stated policy of reflecting terroir in the bottle is vigorously pursued.
