The name Kanu is derived from a veteran farm hand on Goedgeloof, who told of the legend of a mythical bird of promise. The story tells that when the bird appeared, all those who fell under its shadow would be blessed with a bountiful harvest.
Hydro Holdings purchased Goedgeloof in 1997. This acquisition was the second wine farm in the Hydro stable, the first being the acclaimed Mulderbosch Vineyards in Stellenbosch.
Winemaker Richard Kershaw joined Kanu's team as Cellarmaster at the end of 2003. Richard is certainly no stranger, having served previously as assistant winemaker to Mike Dobrovic. It is Richard's express intention to entrench Kanu's reputation as one of the leading producers alongside sister winery Mulderbosch. Kanu's emphasis has been, and will remain, as pioneers of award-winning, world class Chenin Blanc.
The Kanu range offers exceptional quality and unusual, innovative packaging. Of specific interest to discerning wine lovers are the wines produced under the Kanu Limited Release label, to which infinite care, resources and attention to detail, were given in their production. In the short history of Kanu, our wines have achieved phenomenal acclaim and numerous awards.
