Graceland Vineyards

Paul and Susan McNaughton purchased Graceland, an 18 hectare farm on the slopes of the Helderberg in 1990. Graceland' is situated against the slopes of the Helderburg in proven red wine territory, together with diligent viticulture practices and the passion of an owner/ winemaker, Graceland produces elegant wines full of flavour.

A 'red only' route has been pursued following the soil, climate and slope parameters of the property. 4 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5 hectares of Merlot and 3.5 hectares of Shiraz have been planted. Two single varietals (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) were launched for the 1998 maiden vintage, with the Shiraz and flagship blend, The Three Graces in 2002.

To redefine the 'Graceland' name tag a friend suggested developing the theme of The Three Graces as part of the label. Consequently Baron Jean Baptiste Regnault's famous painting of the tastefully intertwined 'Three Graces' from the Louvre has been used to adorn the front of the bottle. Legend has it that they were the physical embodiments of Beauty, Joy and Charm which symbolise the essential characteristics of Graceland wine.

This wine farm is a small family operation and the whole family plays a role: Susan has been the driving force as viticulturist, winemaker and marketer; Paul attends to the finances and administration and everyone, even the children, lend a hand in the cellar. When the watch dogs start to eat the grapes off the vines, we know it is time to pick.

Consulting winemakers produced the first three vintages but Susan McNaughton took over the role of full-time winemaker in 2002.

Graceland Vineyards also has a stunning B&B. Two spacious and uniquely decorated rooms offer every comfort.

Sample the fruits of the cellar, on the shady verandahs in summer, or at the log fire in winter.

Full breakfasts are served over-looking the tranquil garden with pool and tennis court.
