With its close proximity to the city and easy accessibility, Constantia is Cape Town's own wine route with Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, Constantia Uitsig and Steenberg the only Estates left as testimony of Constantia's history from an era when the Constantia Estate belonged to Simon van de Stel, the then governor of the Cape, and the name Constantia became linked with the most famous wines ever produced in this country.
David and Marlene McKay bought Constantia Uitsig in 1988 and restored to its former glory, after careful research and planning of the beautiful valley that is blessed with moderate temperatures, excellent soils, good rainfall and cooling sea breezes from two close-by oceans, the wine farm was revived with 40 hectares under cultivation The farm now produces award winning wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
