Buitenverwachting was originally part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony.
Located in the heart of the Constantia valley, the farm has an absolutely gorgeous setting with an oak-lined avenue that leads past the Cape Dutch homestead to the thatch but modern cellar, acres of vines spread up hillsides flanked by more towering oaks and the rocky crags of the Constantiaberg.
The lovingly restored farm with extensive planting of the most selected of cultivars, resulted in a maiden grape harvest of 100 tonnes - the first harvest the farm had seen in more than 30 years. An historic achievement that lived up to its name: Buitenverwachting - "Beyond Expectation". The farm boasts an exceptional range of wines as well as one of the best restaurants in the country.
Buitenverwachting consistently rates as one of South Africa''s top restaurants, it has a glorious setting overlooking a panorama of vines and mountain slopes where one can enjoy classic comfort in the twin-roomed restaurant, glass-enclosed terrace or a pre / post dinner drink or cigar in the lounge.
