Bonfoi was part of the farm Aan den Weg, originally named after the road that joined Stellenbosch to Cape Town. Governor W.A. van der Stel gave the original farm to Jan van Reede.
Since then the farm changed hands several times till two French ladies bought the farm in the Eighteenth century and named it Bonfoi "Good Faith".
Later the Joubert family owned the farm. A Man by the name of Le Grange married one of the Joubert daughters and took over the farm.
Johannes van der Westhuizen worked on the farm, and was very lucky to buy the farm later on when Le Grange could not continue farming any more.
Johannes with the help of the regional bank received a hundred percent bond on the farm and since then never looked back.
His two sons Christoff and George bought the farm.
George later moved to another farm, which they bought together. Christoff stayed and farmed on Bonfoi.
After Christoff passed away in 1985, his son took over in 1990 and kept up the family traditions of wine making.
