Independent art dealer Rose Korber, specialising in works by leading and emerging, contemporary South African artists. Her background experience as a freelance art writer, critic and lecturer proved to be an excellent preparation for her role as an art consultant. Having covered major local and international art events and exhibitions over the years - including numerous Documenta's and Venice Biennale's - she decided on a complete change of direction when, in 1990, she launched the Rose Korber Art Consultancy. The name has subsequently been changed to Rose Korber Art.
As consultant and dealer, she sources and supplies quality artworks by both established and up-coming artists. Her clients include overseas and local collectors, corporations and institutions, whom she advises on quality, pricing and investment. She works closely, too, with many of South Africa's prominent architects and interior designers, selecting works to serve the needs of their clients.
Through her close ties with many leading, contemporary artists, Rose Korber has ready access to their finest works. An extensive range of these artworks - including paintings, drawings, mixed media works, original prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, Rorkesdrift tapestries and contemporary beadwork - can be viewed in the relaxed, convivial atmosphere of her Camps Bay home, with its superb sea and mountain views.
Throughout the year, she also curates and organises significant exhibitions in premier venues, which serve as showcases for innovative, contemporary South African art.
For the past 15 years, Rose Korber has also curated and organised the annual Art Salon in December/January , featuring superb examples of works by an exciting range of artists - all under one roof.
The 16th Art Salon - held from 17 December 2007 to 13 February 2008 - certainly lived up to the high reputations of its previous incarnations. It was an Art Salon with a difference, as the venue was - for the first time - in the more intimate surroundings of Rose Korber Art at 48 Sedgemoor Road, Camps Bay, Cape Town. Hours were 10 am - 7 pm daily.
Clients who pay a visit to Rose Korber Art in Camps Bay (Click here to see a map) may need to put aside a couple of hours , as they are sure to be regaled with a good cup of coffee or a glass of wine and a one-to-one, guided tour of aspects of the contemporary South African art scene.
Rose Korber's evident passion for art is reflected in her aim to encourage and stimulate critical appreciation of the visual arts in all its myriad forms.
