The Milnerton Golf Course, is famous for its superb location, nestled between the Atlantic ocean and the Rietvlei river, this lush links-type course is relatively flat with few trees. But with the sea and the lagoon bordering most holes, and the 7 beautiful water holes waiting to claim the wayward shot, it offers a truly unique golfing experience!
An added real estate development necessitated some alterations to the original layout and the members took the opportunity to upgrade, not only the links layout, but also to add new water features and bunkers and to introduce excellent new greens. Superb putting surfaces are now the standard. The third tee provides the first vantage point to Table Mountain and from there; there are views of the long sandy beaches and dunes that border the course.
On this golf course the best holes are those closest to the sea, and unfortunately there are not enough of them. With a tee built close to the beach, the long par-4 12th is a real golfers challenge, played in the prevailing south-easterly wind which supplies regular wind and in true links fashion, this will determine the degree of difficulty of the course.
Should the South Easter wind be blowing, the first 9 are down wind and the second 9 will ensure a tough homeward experience. On a windless day, the only concerns are the bushy areas near the beach and some tree-lined fairways that are seemingly narrow.
The Golf Course is a regular host to PGA events including the South African Open, the course boasts picture postcard views of Table Mountain across the bay from almost every hole.
