The Camp

Situated in the Agulhas National Park at the southern tip of South Africa, Agulhas Restcamp provides comfortable lodging where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet, surrounded by the rugged coastal landscape of the Park. Designed with conservation in mind, the camp is intimate and located on reclaimed farmland near the famous Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, overlooking the ships wrecked by the stormy Cape Waters.

Accommodation

Four two-bed and four four-bed self-catering chalets make up the accommodation. Two-bed chalets are comprised of two separate bedrooms with one en-suite bedroom and either two single beds or a double bed in each. The four-bed self-catering chalets have either two en-suite bedrooms, with either two single beds or two single beds and one double bed.

Chalets are equipped with:

Chalets are equipped with cutlery, crockery, and cooking, utensils, as well as fresh linen, towels and soap. Units are serviced daily, except for washing of dishes. All units are equipped with a 220V supply plug-points.

Activities & facilities

Hiking trails and lead guests down the rocky coastline, carpeted by fynbos, where the Rasperpunt rock formations can be seen. Birdlife includes such rare and endangered species as the African Black Oyster-catcher. L'Agulhas, Struisbaai or Bredasdorp are nearby towns where a selection of restaurants, pubs, shops, banks, and other facilities are available.

Directions & Maps

From the N2 from Cape town to Port Elizabeth, along the Garden Route. Exit at Calendon or Swellendam and travel through Bredasdorp to reach Cape Agulhas. Alternatively, travel via the village of Gansbaai. The park is situated approximately 230 km from Cape Town, with the nearest towns being L'Agulhas and Struisbaai.

Wildlife & Vegetation

Cape Grysbok, Southern Right Whales, Cape Fur Seals, dolphins and porpoises may be seen in the park. An extensive variety of birds may be seen, such as the Blue Crane and Secretary bird. Agulhas is the habitat of over 21 000 migrant and resident wetland birds. Robins and buntings are common, while the Cape Sugarbird, Victorin's Warbler and Orange-breasted Sunbird are great additions to any birder's list.

Agulhas forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, which is the habitat of the Cape's unique fynbos vegetation. 100 endemic plant species are among the 2000 species of indigenous plants that thrive here, which together with wetlands that house a range of vegetation and aquatic invertebrates, make the area one of incredible biodiversity.
