Yzerfontein is situated about 80km north of Cape Town near Darling,its a lovely picturesque fishing village with kilometres of clean beaches . Yzerfontein forms part of the Whale Route and in late spring the Southern Right Whales can be viewed from close up,its best known for its tranquility,16 mile beach and spring flowers.It has a small thriving fishing industry , you can buy fresh snoek or crayfish at the harbour in season.
The name originates from a spring used by the Bushman and "Strandlopers" , The rust coloured water had an iron taste and hence the word Yzerfontein developed.It is world-renowned for its breathtaking views of Table Mountain and natural beauty .
