This hotel is in a fantastic location, being within a safe, quick and easy walking distance to the V&A Harbour front. The rooms were tiny but we knew that ahead of time and as we were only sleeping there, it didn't matter. (for us location was the key!) Being an old jail it was a unique experience, not an imposing building but from our room - no views which again, wasn't a problem for us. Sadly, we didn't think it was easy to find out a lot about the history - only a few basic facts. There is no airconditioning but even though temperatures outside were around 35degrees, the fan was enough for us all.
We stayed in the main building where the reception is located and thought it was great, clean and a good hotel. The reception staff were at times uninterested in their guests, but we found that throughtout South Africa so wasn't a big surprise. Breakfasts were ok but so much nicer to walk down to the waterfront and eat out in the sunshine overlooking Table Mountain! Will recommend the hotel to anyone just wishing to have a place to sleep and be within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops and taxis!
