The Milestone is situated in the most beautiful location right on the water’s edge of the False Bay coastline. The charming wooden cottage is situated in a secluded garden, which gives way to wild coastal shrubs and the shoreline. To the east is the sea. To the north is the coastline with beautiful granite boulders, interesting rock pools and three lovely sandy beaches – undeveloped for a kilometre before one encounters other houses.
The Milestone enjoys a superb 180-degree uninterrupted sea-view making the ever-changing moods of the panorama from the spectacular sunrises over the sea and the Hottentots Holland Mountains to the equally impressive pastel sunsets part of The Milestone experience.
The outdoor living area (lawns, deck and barbecue area) is completely private and less than 20 metres from the water’s edge.
The Milestone offers privacy, an intimate seaside experience and the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern society and close to nature. It is the perfect hideaway for nature lovers of all ages.
Enjoy unique encounters with South African wildlife:
Jackass penguins nest in the garden. They are most entertaining waddling up and down pass the house or just going about their business in the garden or on the rocks below the house. Dassies (hyrax) sleep under the rocks below the garden. In the early morning they are all over the rocks catching the first rays of the rising sun and later graze or sun themselves in the garden. Cape clawless otters, genets and porcupines are regular visitors to the garden. Several terrestrial bird species frequent the garden and a variety of seabirds are usually on the rocks. Watch cape fur seals and dolphins from the house. During the calving season between July and November, experience the thrill of seeing Southern Right whales swimming and breaching right in front of the house.
Best of both worlds:
The Milestone is very well placed for a quiet, relaxed, seaside holiday as well as for first time visitors who want to explore Greater Cape Town and surroundings.
The Milestone is very self-contained and many activities can be enjoyed right in front of the house. If you are keen on diving or snorkelling change at the house and wander the forty or so meters to the water’s edge where there is an easy entry point. There is good diving all along this stretch of coast. As the sea is calm it is ideal for swimming.
The Milestone combines the pleasure of being close to nature with accessibility to the major attractions. Take a leisurely 3-minute stroll to Fisherman's Beach, or a coastal walk to nearby Boulders Beach. Spend a day in the Cape Point / Cape of Good Hope National Park, part of the Cape Floral Kingdom World Heritage Site (10 minute drive). Visit interesting shops, art galleries, museums and good restaurants in historic Simon’s Town (5 minute drive), or Cape Town, or other popular areas in the Peninsula, or the Stellenbosch wine route (all within easy commuting distance).
Historical Comfort:
The house was built in the 1920s and is made of Jarra wood from old pavilion in Muizenberg. It is well maintained, attractively and comfortably furnished. Its 3 star rating (Tourism Grading Council of SA) ensures very good quality in the overall standard of furnishings, service and guest care.
The house comprises a lounge, dining room, sunroom, three bedrooms (sleeps 6 - double bed, twin beds and double bunk), two bathrooms (one with shower, one with bath) and kitchen equipped with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, ceran hob, undercounter oven, extractor fan, microwave, toaster and kettle.
