imons Town has something to offer everyone. Originally named after Simon van der Stel it is has a rich history. The British established the Royal Naval Base in 1806. This squadron was responsible for taking care of the exiled Napoleon Bonaparte on the island of St. Helena. Times have moved on and the town is now home to the South African Naval Museum.
Whales, especially Southern Right whales can be spotted in False Bay from the deck during the months of August through November as they make their way up the West Coast. This species flip out of the water and "wave" their flippers in the air. Other species include Humpback, Bryde and Killer Whales. Dolphins also frequent the bay.
Visitors can see Jackass Penguins at Boulders Beach, Water’s Edge and Seaforth which are just a short walk away.
