Sandbaai
The Western Cape seaside resort of Hermanus is one of South Africa’s favourite destinations. Peaceful, decadent, and exquisitely beautiful, Hermanus is a terrific location for those weary city slickers that need a break from the hustle and bustle of modern day life. Sandbaai is one of Hermanus’ newest suburbs and is proving immensely popular with many holidaymakers. Sandbaai boasts a very convenient location as it is on the doorstep of the riveting and appropriately named Hemel en Aarde (Heaven and Earth, when translated) valley, in very close proximity to the happy holiday haunt of Onrus and just an hour out from the fabulous city of Cape Town; indeed it is the perfect refuge for those that need a quick weekend getaway.
Sandbaai is ideal for families with young children or couples needing to spend quality time with each other; furthermore, it has managed to maintain a type of rustic feel to it with its selection of gravel roads as well as its myriad of homes that are either permanent or for holiday purposes. Sandbaai features a stunning beach that has a number of terrific snorkelling spots as well as rock pools that dot the shoreline. The beach is fantastic for swimming and safe at low tide, while there are convenient amenities on-site such as changing rooms and showers.
For those that want to get out of Sandbaai for the day, the breathtaking Hemel en Aarde Valley is literally minutes away and consists of a plethora of shops, art galleries and studios, farm stalls, jewellers, and a number of delicious eateries. The valley is also home to a sumptuous wine route that is sure to be envy of wine connoisseurs everywhere.
