Noordhoek valley is one of the Cape Towns most treasured destinations. It has a rural atmosphere and rustic surroundings, a famous beach and vast wetlands. Noordhoek has lots to offer, including a wide range of activities, guesthouses and self catering accommodation. It is situated at the foot of Chapman's Peak about 30 minutes from the City and has a delightful village atmosphere with awesome mountain and sea views. Here you will find horses, pigs, cows, hens, ducks, geese and rabbits roaming around in gardens, farms and open spaces. The name Noordhoek, means Northern Corner, named in 1740 when it described the north corner of the farm Slangkop.
The farmers grew vegetables to supply the ships calling at Simon's Town. If you climb up the mountainside and look down, you will see nice farm-houses scattered all over, surrounded by cultivated gardens growing nearly every kind of vegetable. There are fine oak trees and a mountain stream waters the gardens and land. To the south and west is a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean bordered by the white sands of the glorious 7 kilometer stretch of beach.
A few old wrecks lie high and dry on the beach. Noordhoek is one of most beautiful areas of Cape Town and worth a trip to spend a good long day and a night.
