About Muizenberg
browse (1 / 2)

Muizenberg is the gateway to the South Peninsula, is surrounded by the sea and mountains and long white sandy beaches. The constant small waves make it popular for body borders and surfers. There is a putt-putt course and a Super Tube water slide next to the beach. It was once the pastoral home of the Khoi, first used by the Dutch east India Company, for the establishment of a cattle farm in 1670. The area then became a military outpost in 1743 under Sergeant Wynand Muis and was known as Fort Muys and later Muizenberg. The buildings reflect both Edwardian and Victorian styles.

Brisk breezes to howling South Easters make windsurfing and kite-flying at Zandvlei a favorite pastime with both locals and visitors. A train ride from Muizenberg to Simon's Town will showcase the picturesque coastline. Hiking in the Muizenberg Mountains is also a popular activity, these walks are accessed from Boyes Drive and the views are awesome.

The oldest building in Muizenburg is Het Posthuys which was built in the 1670, well worth a visit. A visit to the holiday cottage of Cecil John Rhodes or Natalie Labia Museum, a satellite of Cape Town's National Gallery are both worth while. The beach stretches for 36 Km from Surfer's Corner to Sunrise Circle and beyond to Monwabisi. Hire a jet ski's for some fun in the sun at Sonwabe Beach. Surfer's Corner (the Muizenberg station end of the beach. For the more experienced surfer, the winter surf at Muizenberg offers a greater challenge.
