Lakeside
The southern suburbs of Cape Town are home to a number of magnificent enclaves, but the area of Lakeside has to be one of its prettiest and tranquil. Lakeside is situated between Muizenberg and West Lake and has the imposing Steenberg Mountain peaks hovering over it; it is also home to another marvellous natural spectacle known as the Zandvlei Lake. Furthermore, Lakeside boasts a very convenient location within the city and is just moments away from the major M3 highway that takes you right into the heart of Cape Town. With so many advantages in its arsenal, it is small wonder why Lakeside is such a sought-after residential area.
While Lakeside is peaceful and serene, there are a number of leisure activities to enjoy and, unsurprisingly, they are geared towards the Great Outdoors. The Zandvlei Lake is one of the suburb’s most terrific recreational amenities as patrons can indulge in windsurfing, canoeing, and yachting here. Another top natural paradise is the Rondvlei Nature Reserve in nearby Grassy Park. The Rondvlei Nature Reserve is a wetlands conservation area surrounded by coastal dunes and is an amazing bird estuary as well as being a home to hippos and other small wild animals. The nature reserve is known for its wonderful walks and educational environment.
Because of Lakeside’s superb geographical location, its visitors and residents are in close proximity to many fine facilities and attractions. These include the Blue Route shopping centre in neighbouring Tokai, the glorious False Bay beaches, and the much-loved penguin colony at Boulders Beach, which is one of the only land-based penguin colonies on the African continent.
