The beautiful sleepy village of Greyton is situated one and a half hours drive from Cape Town. It nestles between the majestic Riviersonderend mountain range and gentle curving hills. This tranquil oasis of green lies between two rivers, with lush colorful country gardens that complement the thatched cottages and oak tree lined lanes.
The Jewel of the Overberg is also close to the new casino in Caledon. Whether it is gambling, fishing or whale watching, Geyton is a delight, offering craft shops, restaurants, art galleries and the regular Saturday morning market.
In 1854 Herbert Vigne founded a freehold agricultural village on his farm Weltevreden. He kept two small portions for himself and bequeathed the remainder of the farm to the proprietors of the erven as commonage, naming it “GREYTON”, after Sir George Grey, the Governor of the Cape at that time.
