About Citrusdal
browse (1 / 3)

Citrusdal is the gateway to the Cederberg Mountains, this bustling rural village is set amongst lush green citrus orchards, less than two hours from Cape Town on the N7 to Namibia. From the Cape driving through the Piekenierskloof Pass and the first range of the Cederberg Mountains, the valley of the Olifants River opens up, the first town in the valley is called Citrusdal. The town and surrounds have much to offer visitors, browse around and discover some of our unique settings, natural splendor and places with true country hospitality.

It is picturesquely situated before the mighty Sneeuberg and is the centre of the orange and lemon growing industries in the Cederberg region. At this time, the area produces 120.000 tons of citrus annually mostly for export. The cultivation of citrus has a long history in the Cederberg. The Hexrivier farm is home to the oldest orange tree in South Africa. Its age, estimated to be 250 years, yet it still bears fruit every year. Citrusdal has a small history museum, focusing on the history of the town, the first pioneers and the local Khoisan. Alongside the museum stands the old Sandveldhuisie which is home to a coffee shop and arts & crafts.
