Jervaux

Located in a bowl in the mountains on the historic Bainskloof pass between Wellington and Worcester, Jervaux is the quintessence of Old Cape charm and tranquillity. Surrounded by pristine fynbos, with wrap-around views and over 400 meters of unspoiled river (including a large natural swimming pool), the Cape Dutch cottage is the perfect place to relax and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

The property is well situated for a variety of activities, including wine tasting (both in the Breede River valley and over the pass in the Wellington/Paarl area), walking (the property borders the Limietberg nature reserve on one side, and vineyards on the other), dining (from the rustic Calabash bush pub up the road to more upmarket options at some of the neighbouring wine estates), or just enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the Cape mountains. There is a large pool in the river for swimming and the water is crystal clear - the entire kloof upstream is protected reserve. In winter the surrounding peaks are often snow-covered.

The Cape Dutch cottage has one double bedroom (en suite), and is built in old Cape style with antique furniture. As it is on the far side of the river, access is via boat and a short walk. It has stunning views up the kloof, and across the Breede river valley wine-lands to Mostert's twin peaks. The cottage is off the grid - water is sourced from a natural rock spring on the property, and there is a solar system for electricity.

"Such prestine and untouched nature is hard to find these days. Our whole experience was pleasant. From the minute we arrived and was taken across the river in a small boat, to transporting our bags from the river bank to the little Cape Duch House in a wheel barrow, to the hospitality of our host was amazing. The beauty of the clear river water and ever changing mounting ranges will be my "happy place" to which I escape in my mind wehn city life gets too much."
